First Aid Station on the Port:

In order to be in compliance with the OSH Act, 2004 which states that companies employing more than 250 workers must provide a first aid station, PLIPDECO constructed a First Aid Station on its Port.

This First Aid Station is operated by trained Emergency Medical Technicians (Basic). This station is equipped and operated to facilitate basic medical needs of approximately 1,000 employees, with emphasis on the workers who conduct work in the Port Operations.

It is estimated that 95% of injuries occurring on the site could be treated immediately on the location itself. Thus, employees can walk into the unit to receive basic medical health care. The station also serves as a rest-off for over stressed workers and can act as a chemical shelter during ammonia releases. The Corporation however also to rely on external facilities for major cases and further medical attention.

Approval of Work:

PLIPDECO utilizes a Permit to Work (PTW) system to approve any job that is required to be conducted at any of the Corporation’s Facilities. Permits to work are a formal management system used to control high risk activities. These enable an assessment of risks to be made and to specify control measures which will be put in place in order to minimise the risk.

Some jobs that require a PTW include but are not limited to:

  • Hot work
  • Excavation
