Chief Engineer

Applications are invited from nationals of Trinidad and Tobago to fill the vacant position of "Chief Engineer" in the Engineering & Maintenance Department at the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited (PLIPDECO).

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the Engineering & Maintenance Department and ensuring its efficiency and availablitiy of equipment through timely servicing, maintenance and repair of Port's equipment.  He/she will also be responsible for implementing strategies to improve the overall performance of the Engineering & Maintenance Department.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Equipment Upkeep/Planned & Unplanned Maintenance

  • Responsible for the appropriate applications of standard strategies and PM routine to existing equipment are planned.
  • Oversees and supervises the performance and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical services, ensuring operation within design capabilities and achieving proper environmental conditions.
  • Responsible for pre-approved schedule and task information in collaboration with the other port operations. Ensures development and/or approval of revised PM routines and standard tasks are required.
  • Performs daily communication with Operations on all PM Planning Schedules and Services Performed.
  • Takes into account all relevant industry and safety procedures relating to the work which will ensure compliance with Safety Management, Performance Standards and Verification Schemes.
  • Optimizes the planned maintenance regimes across all equipment. Review the PM content, PM scedule, required resources, internal and external work standards to support the generic technical PM's.

Technical System

  • Establishes and Maintains periodic operational testing schedules for critical equipment.
  • Administers an effective and accountable preventative maintenance system on equipment.
  • Analyses deficiences and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish performance standards for each phase of work, adhering to standard practics and quality levels.

Management Systems

  • Monitors and provides technical specialist advice on all work to ensure that all operations are carried out safely.
  • Implements and conducts training programmes for operating equipment and systems.
  • Develops operating instructions and procedures for all equipment and systems.
  • Strives towards a goal of zero down-time in operations by virtue of reliable system performance.
  • Responsible for conducting periodic evaluations on subordinate staff as and when required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng).
  • Demonstrated ability to read schematics, blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Training on all Port equipment in hydraulics, engines and transmissions.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance.
  • In-depth working knowledge of equipment and devices.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of regulations applicable to overhaul and maintenance operations.
  • Able to work with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary to facilitate job-related goals.
  • Verified ability to effectively plan, prioritize and organize work/resources.
  • Willing and able to conduct speciality on-the-job training.
  • Excellent documentation skills, and fluent in written and verbal English.

COMPUTER LITERATE:

  • Must have a working knowledge (input and extract data) of computers.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel and MS Word would be an asset).

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.

REQUIRED TESTING:

  • Medical Assessment re fitness for duty (inclused testing for drugs and alcohol).
